Biography
Dr Alkalaly’s experience, both locally and internationally, and extensive postgraduate education reflect his passion for providing the best care for his patients. He graduated in 1999 with honours from Cairo University and worked in private practice in Cairo as a dentist with a particular interest in Orthodontics (aligning and straightening teeth).
He has always had the goal of becoming a highly qualified and skilled orthodontist. He undertook a Craniofacial Fellowship in Taiwan in 2003, focusing on cleft and surgical patients from an orthodontic perspective. He then moved to Japan, where he had orthodontic postgraduate studies and participated in several research projects published in international journals. He obtained his PhD degree in orthodontics at the University of Hong Kong in 2011. After receiving his PhD, he worked as an orthodontic specialist for a few years before carrying out a 3- years Doctor degree in clinical dentistry in orthodontics at the University of Edinburgh (Edinburgh Dental Institute). He graduated with distinction and was awarded the Prestigious Narin Wilson Medal for clinical and Academics excellence from Edinburgh Dental institutes.
Dr Alkalaly is a registered dentist with the GDC and is on the specialist list as a specialist orthodontist. He is also a Consultant Orthodontist at NHS Dumfries and Galloway.
Dr Alkalaly has Membership (by examination) in Orthodontics of both the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, Australia. He also holds a Master’s degree in Health Informatics awarded jointly by the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, which aims to improve healthcare through applying Health Information Technology (HIT) and information science to health care delivery.
When not at work, Abdullah enjoys spending time with his family, exploring new technologies, exercising, travelling, and exploring beautiful Scotland and the UK.
