Biography

Dr Rachel Dinwoodie – Consultant Orthodontist & Private Orthodontic Specialist BDS (Wales) MSc (Lond) FDSRCS (Edin) M.Orth (Edin) F.Orth (Edin) After qualifying from the University of Wales, College of Medicine in 1996, Rachel undertook two maxillofacial Senior House Officer positions and a paediatric position before embarking on a three year Orthodontic training programme at Guys Hospital, London. Whilst at Guys she was awarded the prestigious "Geoffrey Fletcher Prize" in orthodontics which enabled her to undertake a research project in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Rachel qualified in Orthodontics in 2003 and obtained a Senior Registrar position at Kingston Hospital to pursue her consultant training. During this two year training period Rachel specialised in treating the more complex clinical cases including those patients with facial deformities and clefts. Rachel was a Consultant Orthodontist at Kingston Hospital for over 12 years where she treated many complex orthodontic cases and had a main role in teaching, training and mentoring trainee Orthodontists. She has been a local Specialist Orthodontist in Surrey for over 20 years. Rachel was awarded the prestigious British Orthodontic Society "Maurice Berman Prize" in 2007. This prize is awarded annually to a member of the British Orthodontic Society in the UK who shows clinical excellence in the treatment of a multidisciplinary case. During her training she was voted into the position of Chairman of the British Orthodontic Society's Training Grades Group and has sat on various British Orthodontic Committees over the past 10 years representing the views of her fellow colleagues. In 2012 she was honoured by the British Orthodontic Society with a Special Service Award for her work within the profession of orthodontics. Rachel has had many senior roles on the British Orthodontic Conference Committee which organises academic conferences annually and strives to improve the quality and care of orthodontic patients in the UK. Her clinical interests are in aesthetic orthodontics for adults and children and “fast-treatment” mechanics. GDC Registration Number: 71715
